For our semester studio project we are supposed to develop a furniture piece...
Most are designing the reception desk for their therapy center... I have decided to develop a wheelchair accessible, mounting ramp. With function over form it is not a very exciting piece, yet, but I did have to pat myself on the back when I figured out how to model the cut-out built in handrail, shown in the last picture. The limestone wall shows building context. The ramp is designed to have multiple levels and approaches for riders with different levels of ability. The six foot wide ramp has a two inch lip to prevent the chairs from deviating from the ramp and textured surfaces for added friction. It has been interesting trying to choose materials that are aesthetically pleasing yet durable considering the use of the piece. Besides adoration for the lovely scale figures seen in the renderings, any input?
