Part of our latest assignment for my Digital Hybrid Drawings Class.
Challenging, but they get better with practice.. (=

stanley, my new best friend.

Once the glue dried I had to use a cabinet scraper to scrape off all of the excess glue and also some of the wood that didn't quite line up. Therapeutic but turns painful hours later.
Scraping my life away.

pup.

Sierra brought her new pup Natty in to studio this afternoon!
She is a pit-bull\lab cross, not a great pic, but isn't she beautiful!
We love her already! (=

topo-sass.

Here is what I accomplished with four hours of my life.
Still not done.
Needless to say, I LOVE topography.

That is a lie, but I do think it turned out kind of pretty.
Prettiness is really an important factor

Too much sass for one blog.

trace.

My most recent assignment for our Digital Hybrid Drawings Class.

We were supposed to find three spots; one on main street, one in Aggieville and one on campus.
Take a picture. Cover picture with trace paper and modify the design using pens and markers.

The strips were mixed up to have consistent coloring and patterns throughout the entire project, strategically organized and then glued.

BIG things.

BIG things are happening.

This week we were so fortunate to host the CIDA Accreditation Team. They are the ones that decide if our program is worthy of the degree. This accreditation process happens once every five years and we were lucky enough to be the eldest class which also means we were under the highest level of review. Our professors and faculty have been preparing for this week for, well, about five years. It's a big deal. Ranked seventh in the nation, we weren't too worried, but it is still very important [stressful.]

Now that they have finished their visit, we can relax for about five minutes, and then begin preparing for our mid-semester critiques in studio, and also preparing our resumes and portfolios for our college's Mock Interview Day, both of which will be taking place on Monday. Joy. Wish us luck and productivity!

Unrelated, but this is one of the many places I would rather be this week.
The sunset on my birthday while camping on the beach with my friends. (=

vanity.

Remember that vanity I was designing?

Before & After.... of about half of the wood.
The reason it is in so many small sections is that we are ripping the boards [lengthwise cutting] so that we can turn them 90 degrees, exposing the grain to glue them back together, giving it a very linear grain pattern.

If you were wondering what $160 worth of Ash looks like... [not including the middle stack]

kitten.

Today Vibha was giving us a wonderful lecture on ordering systems and partis, reminding us to use the books that we have owned for years. Why do I know her lecture was wonderful? Even Gizmo, Whitney's new kitten was paying attention [for about 5 seconds.] Then he was purely a wonderful little ball of furry distraction. We love him already. Studio quality of life scores 10 points. Studio stress level is disqualified due to the level of cuteness of the kitten.
