site.

Site Selection - via GoogleEarth

I was looking for a site that was outside of town, relatively flat, easily accessible, has access to water and also vegetation for enhanced scenic views.

Site Visit

My classmate, Alexis, and I teamed up to visit our sites. We met the nice farmer who owns this land, and had to explain why were trespassing and taking pictures of his fields.

"So you need a pretty picture to put a building on?"
 "Yes, that is all sir."

Honestly, a very nice man.

We then created an inspiration board. Click on it to view it a little bigger.
I decided to use the natural ordering system of the sunflower, note the bottom three images on the right, and the top right photo. The golden section [the rectangle with the swirl in the middle] is a common natural ordering system found everywhere. Google it.

Then after site analysis we create a system of parti drawings that help us set up an informed ordering system for our site and buildings.

card defined.

Mock-up of a business card for my Digital Hybrid Drawings class... what do you think?

Theoretically printed on watercolor paper with actual paint on each.

defined.

The woes of trying to decide which font best defines you. Who would have guessed it would take so many hours.

Which do you prefer? Left or right?

field trip. kansas therapy center.

Today we had the opportunity to visit the Kansas Therapy Center in Topeka!
Here are a few pictures!

It has been so inspiring visiting therapy facilities. All of the people who have given us the tours are so passionate about their jobs and helping people. They are very excited that we are designing a therapy center and for advancements in healthcare design. They each have had a long list of things they WISH their facilities had. It makes it much easier to put in the time and effort knowing how much of a difference it can make.

thumbnails.

An exercise practicing "thumbnail sketches" for my Digital Hybrid Drawings class.

I chose "iconic chairs" for a theme for the grouping.
Do you recognize any of them?

abstract.

An abstract model of my favorite place.

We were then supposed to use new concepts from the abstract model to design a light fixture, a furniture piece, and an interiors. Quick, in class project for my Digital Hybrid Drawings class.

field trip. equine therapy.

Today we had the opportunity to visit the K-State Horse Training Facilities. They are currently doing research on the benefits of equine therapy in relation to physically and emotionally wounded soldiers from Fort Riley. One of the first actual research/evidence based  projects pertaining to equine therapy. Very exciting! Here are a few pictures!
